This is a rare and unusual example of a color zoned Amethyst from the famous Thunder Bay region. This is made even more special is that the last layer (roughly a couple mm) included particulate hematite coloring it red, obscuring the deep purple color that lies just beneath!
Not quite unlike tree rings the chevron shaped color variations represent
changes in the growth of the crystal a different points in time i.e. if
it is more purple the temperature of the crystallizing waters was
hotter and contained more Iron. A truly unique specimen!! It measure 3″ by 2.5″ by 2.5″ and weighs at thirteen ounces, so shipping should be $15.00!! for locals within North America.
